08-29-2017 - No Korean missile fire 087.jpg

August 29, 2017, Tokyo, Japan: In the early dawn hours, the people of Japan awoke to learn that North Korea had just fired a missile over it's territory. According to the Japanese government, at 5:58 a.m the intermediate-range missile traveled about 14 minutes and passed over southern Hokkaido for two minutes before plunging into the Pacific Ocean about 1,180 km east of Cape Erimo. When this occurred morning commuters in Hokkaido had their rail service temporally halted due to safety precautions and millions around the country were alerted by emergency notices on their smart phones. In most major cities it was common to see outdoor TV screens broadcasting news throughout the day as seen here in Tokyo. Reacting to the incident, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called this “an unprecedented, grave and serious threat” that damages the peace and security of the region, adding that Tokyo had lodged a firm protest with Pyongyang.
