Kesenuma_281.jpg

March 11, 2012, Kesenuma, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan: the port city of Kesenuma suffered heavy losses when the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami struck. Exactly one year later on the anniversary much of the damage is still visible, especially with large fishing boats and ships still strewn around. The large ship Dai-juhachi Kyotoku Maru has now become both a shrine and curiosity attraction (Torin Boyd/Polaris Images).
