This is Mieko Tanaka (gray pant suit, left), a newly elected parliamentarian to Japan's House of Representatives and member of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ). This 33 year old beauty from Ishikawa Prefecture has been drawing attention in both political and the media circles due to her quick rise in politics and nearly beating former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori by 4000 votes in the recent nationwide elections. She won a seat in parliament due to her party's proportional representation quota. When the former PM learnt of the results, he commented that she won due to her sexiness. Miss Tanaka who's a former travel agent and writer who used to report on the Japan's sex industry sometimes dressed in S&M costumes is a protégé of Ichiro Ozawa, the kingpin of the DPJ. Ozawa recruited a group of young women to run in the recent nationwide election who came to be dubbed as "Ozawa's Girls" and "Princess Brigade". Miss Tanaka herself campaigned in her constituency on a bicycle dressed in DPJ pink. A record 54 women won parliamentary seats in the Aug. 30 election, a milestone for female representation in Japanese government.
