October, 23, 2016, Asaka, Saitama Prefecture, Japan: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe proudly reviews his nation's military might during an annual review of the Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF), held at the Asaka Training Area on the outskirts of Tokyo. For this event, PM Abe, top ranking Japanese brass and international dignitaries were in attendance to view Japan's military prowess. This included 4000 troops, 27 divisions, 280 vehicles and artillery, plus 50 aircraft of the Ground, Air, and Maritime branches of the JSDF. Since the post WW II era, Japan has been a pacifist nation with it's constitution drafted by the Allied Occupation in 1947. But Since PM Shinzo Abe took office in 2012, he's had an agenda to revise the constitution which would permit Japan greater autonomy outside it's borders. In December 2013, Abe announced a five year plan of military expansion described as "proactive pacifism", with the goal of making Japan "a more normal country", able to defend itself. This was in reaction to China's buildup of it's military and territorial disputes with Japan, as well as a decreased American influence in the region. This is also a matter of national pride as Japan has been trying to wash away it's past aggressions of WW II. (Torin Boyd/Polaris).
