October, 23, 2016, Asaka, Saitama Prefecture: This is the Airborne Unit of the Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF) during an annual military review held at the Asaka Training Area, a JSDF base on the outskirts of Tokyo. This airborne unit is an elite fighting force, the equivalent of Army rangers. For this event, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, top ranking Japanese military brass and international dignitaries were in attendance to view Japan's military might. This included 4000 troops, 27 divisions, 280 vehicles and artillery, plus 50 aircraft of the Ground, Air, and Maritime branches of the JSDF. (Torin Boyd/Polaris).
