November 20, 2016, Tokyo, Japan: Every Autumn a special chrysanthemum exhibition is held within the grounds of Tokyo’s Shinjuku Gyoen, a botanical garden in the center of the city. This month long flower display includes uniquely Japanese flowers, some so large they are the same size as basket balls. This garden which dates back to the 19th century was formerly part of the Imperial palace Outer Garden used exclusively by Japan’s Imperial family. In 1949 this 144 acre site with over 20,000 trees was opened to the public and is now classified as a national garden. Photo by Torin Boyd.
