This is New York Times Tokyo bureau chief Martin Fackler at the Tojinbo cliffs in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture. Fackler was here working on a two day story about these seaside cliffs where many come to commit suicide by jumping. This story also involved reporting on retired police detective Yukio Shige who set up an NPO in order to prevent these suicides at Tojinbo. Also traveling with Fackler was reporter Yasuko Kamiizumi and photographer Torin Boyd who took this photo on November 27, 2009.
