Dior_Tokyo_084.jpg

This is the Dior boutique located on Tokyo's Omotesando, an avenue (and district name) that has many upscale international boutiques like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Zara, Benetton, Gucci, Prada, etc. So many brand shops are on along this avenue it's now nicknamed the Champs-Élysées of Tokyo. The Dior shop is one of the most interesting of them all as it's designed by Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, whose Tokyo firm is known as SANAA. They two architects are also the recipients of the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize, which this building was cited as a standout among the award committee. This Dior design is unique in that it'sa building gift-wrapped with translucent skin that allows the building underneath it to show through.
