This is the Gundam Big Expo, a three day extravaganza that took place in Tokyo to commemorate the Gundam robot series from August 21 - 23, 2009. Seen here are ongoing tournaments of the Gundam War game cards...Held at Tokyo Big Site, a convention center located in Tokyo's Odaiba waterfront district, this expo celebrated the 30th anniversary of the original Gundam character created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise studios in 1979. It also coincided with the of erection of a 59-foot-tall (18 meters) Gundam robot statue constructed in a nearby park. Gundam started out in 1979 as a TV series called Mobile Suit Gundam but has since grown into a more than $500 million (50 Billion JPY) trademark owned by NAMCO BANDAI Holdings Inc. of Japan. At this expo there were exhibitions or rare Gundam goods, video displays and demonstrations, card game tournaments and appearances by Gundam actors (closed to foreign press). Most importantly, this expo was held to sell Gundam merchandise.
