October, 23, 2016, Asaka, Saitama Prefecture: Japan's elite flying team, Blue Impulse performs aerial acrobatics during an annual military review held at the Asaka Training Area, a Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JSDF) military base on the outskirts of Tokyo. Blue Impulse is similar to America's Blue Angels and from 11 Squadron 4th Air Wing of the Japan Air Self Defense Force based at Matsushima Air Base. For this event, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, top ranking Japanese brass and international dignitaries were in attendance to view Japan's military might. This included 4000 troops, 27 divisions, 280 vehicles and artillery, plus 50 aircraft of the Ground, Air, and Maritime branches of the JSDF. (Torin Boyd/Polaris).
